Like so many of you, I started out believing in order to gain mass I had to eat lots of clean food. What I am about to tell you may shock some of you.
I have been bodybuilding for more than 20 years, I can speak from personal experience, eating 6000 clean calories is super hard.

For the Mr. universe my diet consisted of 6000 calories, I went through a jar of peanut butter every second day, I added MCT and olive oil to just about everything and still I struggled.
I read about guys, claiming how they’re eating 5000 or 6000 clean calories in the off-season. I’m sorry I have a hard time believing, I believe they are eating clean, but I doubt they,re eating 5000 or 6000 calories.

Some of the pros who weigh 300+ pounds, need to come consume 8000 or 9000 calories to maintain that much mass, I doubt they are doing that with rice and tuna. Truth be known they’re not. They are doing it with junk food, lots of junk food, that’s right I am talking about big Macs, ice cream, potato chips and chocolate chip cookies, it’s hard to believe but it’s true. With so much muscle mass these guys aren’t worried about getting fat, and most likely they are using GH anyway. 200 g of uncooked rice yields about 750 calories, that is equal to one big Mac, 200 g off uncooked rice is a shit load of rice.

Seriously, how many times have you seen a Pro in the off-season looking like a glazed doughnut, how can this be if they claim they are eating clean foods, it’s because they’re not. I often get a shocked look from people when I tell them I go to Mac Donald’s at least five or six times per week, I make sure I eat lots of good protein, for the rest I am not to strict, so long I reached my target calories I don’t really care.

The only time I eat clean is when I do a contest, I eat between seven or eight meals daily, with this I find myself cooking all the time. I am glad my diet only last 16 weeks, I could not imagine doing this all the time.
Most guys have a job, I doubt very much they can walk away every three hours to cook a meal, I certainly couldn’t. So the only way would be to prepare all our meals before we went to work, that’s at least three or four meals that we would need to prepare. I will need to get up two hours early every day just to prepare my meals including my breakfast, fuck that I’d rather sleep in. Okay maybe some of us are Lucky and have a shop near work that can make some of our meals, unfortunately most of us don’t.

I don’t have a cheat day or a cheat meal, I cheat whenever I feel like especially when I’m short on time, my body needs calories so if there is a Burger King nearby I will buy a burger. My body needs lots of calories, firstly, it needs them to maintain my muscle mass, secondly to build new muscle mass. If I’m out and about, and I’m due for a meal, I am not going to wait until I get home so that I can boil up some potatoes and grilled a piece of steak, by that time it is already too late, my body is in a state of Catabolism. I need to eat, I need to eat now, so if a big Mac is my only choice so be it, I rather eat that then my body eat my muscles.

Don’t get me wrong I am not a junk food monster, predominantly I try to eat lean as much as possible. If I had to guess I would say I eat 80% clean most of the time, but if I have a big Mac for dinner, I am not going to squander any sleep over it. I think 80% is a bit too much more like 70%, but you get the concept.

At the end of the day calories matter, as long my intake of protein comes from a good source, like chicken, meat, eggs, fish and whey protein, I’m not too fussed where the balance of my calories comes from.

If you want to get big you must eat big, don’t get too hung up if your abs disappear, you will get to see them again when you diet, but don’t get carried away. I mean if you can’t see your feet when standing it’s time to back off the big Macs, let’s exercise some common sense. In my view, too many guys want size, but are fearful to gain a little fat.

To be continued…..

The BS in bodybuilding ads

November 30th, 2009 by Bart No comments »

I was given an old Ironman magazine, personally I never buy one, they’re just one gigantic supplement catalog.

There really hasn’t been anything new to the market since Creatine, supplement companies are just rehashing the same old crap, trying to stay ahead of the others.

The popular choice of convincing you is the before and after pictures, showing dramatic differences, supported by pictures of diced cells showing you how the cells works like we’re scientist, baffling us with bullshit really.

ad

Honestly do you really know what it means, and is it true, who knows, sure is pretty though.

It’s not creatine. It’s not nitric oxide. It’s something completely new. From its exclusive stable creatine glycerol ester to the lightning-quick liquid delivery system, PLASMAVOL creates a whole new class in bodybuilding science. It’s the ultimate formula for delivering awe-inspiring pumps and achieving a new level of muscularity and strength.

It’s not creatine, yes it is just with added glycerol, whoop-tee-doo.

The NxLabs researches made the discovery of a lifetime with the liquid formula. They worked side by side with many top scientists……………………PLASMAVOL also includes Mannitol, a hospital strength compound.

hey have us believing there’s a huge lab filled with scientists working around the clock, and hospital strength Mannitol, well it must be good then.

My point isn’t to tell you how good or bad this product is , rather the advertising method used, lets take a look at the next picture.

add

Ohhhh impressive :shitt: wow according to these photo’s this stuff really works, I wonder…………

I toke a photo of my arm too

addd

ada

why do they continue to insult our intelligence, it wasn’t hard for me to show you how easy it is to mislead, do they really think we are so naive.

These guys are my favorite, they just come right out and hit you with a bag full of stupid.

The second paragraph is the best, especially the part about the girls

adad
We all know steroids are king when it comes to building muscle, even with steroids it’s still damn hard to gain good quality muscle, no supplement despite their claims will EVER come close, EVER.

Third paragraph, holy sh*t it just doesn’t stop with their outrageous claims, zero % bady fat wow really :frus: .

The last paragraph kinda f*cks them, this shit is so awesome and mind blowing powerful, you would think you need to buy it from some shady guy in the gym, NOPE you can buy this super bad ass product from your friendly GNC store awww how nice.

Ads don’t need to tell you the truth, they just tell you what you want to hear.

Gyms are going extinct

October 12th, 2009 by Bart No comments »

free weights

When I first started lifting there was no bench press machine, no seated shoulder press module, the only stack weight was on the cable crossover, we just lifted iron.

There are people out there who train chest every week but never actually done a free weight bench-press.

I do not think you can really feel how muscle works unless you trained with free weights.

Fitness centers are replacing gyms.

Fitness centers are 40% cardio machines, 40% stack weight and 20% free weight, fitness centers goals are to sell memberships.

I see more and more people train every week for years and never lose weight. Personal trainers are predominantly young kids who did a 6 week fitness course.

The true benefit is free weights if only fitness centers cared more about their members than money they would actually help a lot more people.

If you are just starting out do yourself a favor learn how to use free weights, the stack weighted machines you see are an adaptation of all free weight exercises, machines are for the lazy man.

By lifting iron you train more than one muscle group, stack weight isolate one muscle, more muscles you invoke the greater the reaction.

Muscle eats fat, the greater demand on muscle the greater demand on calories.

Lifting iron is not easy that is why people shy away from it, but the results come much faster and if your goal is to lose weight, move away from the cardio area and head over to the free weight section.

free weights

You are not going for world records so why try and lift heavy and people leave your egos at home no one really cares how much you lift only you do. When you start, learn the basic exercises.

  • Bench press   (chest)
  • Shoulder press    (shoulders)
  • Squats  (legs)
  • Dumbbell rows   (back)
  • Bicep curls  (bicep)
  • French press  (triceps)

Start with light weight and focus on form, train a minimum of three times per week, no more than 45 minutes.

Woman, YOU WILL NOT GET BULKY, that involves going to the gym 5, 6 times per week eating vast amounts of food and years of training.

If you are serious about losing weight learn how to use free weights, you will not be disappointed.

Rock hard abs

October 5th, 2009 by Bart No comments »

Everybody wants them, nothing looks better then a six pack, every weight loss machine on TV targets the ABS we are constantly miss lead, let me clear a few myths.

abs

Myth #1

Abdominal muscle is different from regular muscle.

Your abdominal muscles are just like every other muscle in your body. The abdominal is different only in location and unlike biceps or quads they don’t rest on a bony surface. So you should train them the same way you would train, say, your biceps or your chest. The basic laws of physiology apply to all your muscles, including your abs. This means that you have to do exercises in the correct plane of movement to effectively work the muscle.

Myth #2

You have to train your abs everyday.

The rules of weight training state that you should give your muscles at least, a day of rest to recover and this applies to your abs as well. Instead of working your back everyday, do them every other day or even just three times a week. They need a break just like the rest of your body. The trick is to train them hard.

Myth #3

Doing ab exercises gets rid of abdominal fat.

There is no such thing as spot reduction. People assume that if you have fat deposits on your abdominal, exercising the muscles underlying the fat will make it go away. But they assume wrong. You can’t get rid of the fat over a muscle by repeatedly exercising that body part. The only way to burn fat from your tummy is through prolonged exercise and a healthy, low calorie diet.

Myth #4

High repetitions are required to make gains.

As you’ve read earlier, abs are just like every other muscle in your body. That means, you should train your abs the same way as the rest of your muscle groups. To make strength gains with your abs, you have to overload your muscles.

Myth #5

absAnyone can have a flat stomach.

For many people it’s not physiologically possible to achieve a flat stomach. In most of us the abdominal muscles are designed to be somewhat rounded, not flat. Age, genetics, gender all these factors decide the size, shape and appearance of you belly.

Myth #6

If you have a bad back, training the abs will worsen it.

Training your abs will strengthen you back. The opposing muscles in you body always assist each other. So if you have weak ab muscles, the load of the work falls on the back. So strengthen the abs and your back will become stronger as well.

Don’t waste time by falling victim to six main ab myths. Train intelligently in accordance with scientifically based training techniques and get super abs.

Steroids, just the facts

September 20th, 2009 by Bart No comments »

There is a multitude of good information on AAS. I won’t and can’t cover it all here.

steroids

Here’s a real short version: Not the DEA, AMA, NJEM, ACS, AHA, US Army…not one organization…recommended that AAS be controlled. In fact, they all recommended that the remain over the counter, or “legend” drugs at most. That’s from the folks in the know.

There has never been a SINGLE death attributable to AAS.

The US ARMY has studied this since the 40’s and has found only 7 cases where AAS might have been a secondary cause, and not a SINGLE case where there were a primary cause.

Non C-17 (injectables for the most part) are NOT toxic, at nearly ANY LEVEL. Testosterone is naturally occurring, and hence is not toxic to your system without levels approaching 5000mg per week. 5 to 10 per day would be typical and even the biggest of juiceheads rarely does more than 2000mg, and most folks do around 700mg a week.

C17 modded orals can be hepa-toxic at high levels, but, not as much as common pain relievers. Apples to apples.

Roid rage is media fluff. In fact, any geriatric physician can tell you that androgens are mood elevating. Most users would tell you the same thing. The “roid rage” thing was invented as court defense for dumbasses.

Steroids are those hormones soluble in fats. Women use estrogen for decades to their benefit.

Your natural testosterone starts declining around 28. As an important part of anti-aging AAS therapy should begin about that time. It will prevent you from several forms of cancer, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s, osteoporosis, preserve your lean muscle, heighten your sexual function, lower your BP, lower your cholesterol, and protect your heart, as well as elevate your mood.

Study after study after study has been done on this and while steroids will always lower cholesterol (it’s part of how they work), mortality among heavy steroid users is always less, than a sedentary population. UNT recently did just such a study. What they found is that the heavy users actually have a LOWER mortality than regular people. Suprised? I’m not. It only makes sense that maintaining a healthy lifestyle along the hormones to back it up would lead to lower morality.

The protocol of choice for the sickest of the sick, is an will likely remain to be for some time yet, AAS. Burns, diabetes, HIV, and most forms of cancer.

Studies have recently been done that show cholesterol isn’t as good an indicator of mortality as visceral vs. non-visceral fat. Considering that several BILLION dollars are being made annually on anti-cholesterol pills (HIGHLY hepa-toxic).

Any negative effects (low sperm count, HPTA suppression) are transitory. (Male birth control)

My doctor is a good one, and said nothing destroys your liver and muscle faster than statins (anti-cholesterol pill), and, in fact, threw them in the trash.

Anti-aging is fast becoming a huge business with grossly over inflated prices. E.g., androgel for $299.00 a month with less raw material than just a couple of shots.

As someone who has been lifting weights for 20 years, and been an elite athlete almost all of my adult life, I’d highly recommend a fair look at these powerful technologies. Like a good running shoe, a light bike, a sleek suit, stimulants, whatever the technology might be, technology plays a part across the board in sports; has for centuries; will be continue to do use. Whatever technology being used, be it the light bike, or androgens, may suit the sport.

I’d advise googling on anti-aging. You don’t have to be miserable, weak, or non-virile. Most anti-aging right now is high profit, and some doctors are intimidated to giving to low doses.

I’ve spent hours talking with both geriatric and non-geriatric doctors about the real benefits of AAS.

When I was kid, AAS were over the counter. We grow up with them. Somewhere along the line a misinformation campaign, somewhat like “Reefer Madness” got underway.

The wide range of benefits certainly outweighs the risks, and especially for anyone over 30.

Technology has always been, and will always be, a part of sport.

There have been a number of studies done about the typical user: late 20’s on up, white, above average income, very health conscious is the typical profile.

Here’s another study that has been done for decades. 35% of all people, irregardless of how irrational something is, will believe whatever they are told, even though the empirical evidence present otherwise.

There’s big money keeping folks unhealthy. There’s big money in keeping anti-aging “exclusive”. It’s not about health. It’s about money.

With regard to estrogen levels getting to high, there’s a 3 whole groups of anti-e’s that solve the problem in nothing flat.

In fact, I was reading that the latest science on prostate cancer is that although testosterone has to be present, high ESTROGEN levels seems to be more of an indicator for prostate cancer. It’s when the ratio of test / est gets to where the est is to high that the incidence of prostate cancers goes up. It was some fairly reliable source, but, I’m forgetting where I read it.

Just as “Reefer Madness” was bullshit, so is much of the current AAS misinformation campaign.

Anecdotal accounts of harrowing side effects are not hard to find — everything from “‘roid rage” to sketchy rumors of a female East German swimmer forced to undergo a sex change operation because of the irreversible effects of excess testosterone. But there are problems with the research that undergirds many of these claims. The media give the impression that there’s something inevitably Faustian about taking anabolics — that gains in the present will undoubtedly exact a price in the future. Doctors are unanimous that [anabolic steroids] increase the risk of heart disease, and of liver, kidney, prostate and testicular cancer.

This is false. “We know steroids can be used with a reasonable measure of safety. We know this because they’re used in medicine all the time, just not to enhance body image or improve athletic performance.Steroids were first used for medical purposes in the 1930s, some three decades before the current exacting standards of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) were in place.

The law does not prevent individuals from skiing, scuba diving or even hang gliding, although all are extremely dangerous activities. As one reviewer noted: “People in this country can choose to have tummy tucks, breast implants, nose jobs, smoke cigarettes, drink alcohol excessively, or watch strippers as long as they don’t hurt other people. Actually smokers are allowed free reign to harm others with second hand smoke in most places in the country except California, so why aren’t people allowed to exert their freedom of choice in regards to use of things like marijuana and anabolic steroids, either of which can be credibly argued to be less dangerous or no more dangerous than cigarettes and alcohol.” Smokers are not subjected to arrest and criminal prosecution, even though many, many more deaths result from tobacco annually than in all fifty years of non-medical steroid use. Each year, the use of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs – including over-the-counter aspirin and ibuprofen – accounts for an estimated 7,600 deaths and 76,000 hospitalizations in the United States. Although the inherent risks of dangerous sports and cosmetic surgery are unnecessary, and may well outweigh the benefits, we do not proscribe these activities

Just the facts mam

I do not hate cardio

September 13th, 2009 by Bart 2 comments »

TreadmillIt appears many people think I’m against cardio, nothing could be further from the truth. There is a lot of debate regarding the need to do cardio, my last experiment was to show how somebody could get lean with diet and training alone.

For competition I think its important to use cardio, doing cardio will give your muscles a much denser look, plus cardio will help you get down to the really low body fat that is required these days to be competitive.

However I don’t believe in the slow burn, I mentally can’t brisk walk on a treadmill staring a wall or even the TV for 45minutes, and riding the stationary bike just hurts my butt.

When I do cardio I like the high intensity type like wind sprints, my favorite is using the stationary bike (15min  doesn’t hurt my butt) where I crank up the resistance for 30 seconds go all out then back off for 1 minute I will do this for 15 minutes.

I believe cardio burns not only fat but muscle too, by doing high intensity cardio you’re doing anaerobic exercise, with slow burn your heart can not achieve the anaerobic zone.

chart

Anaerobic glycolysis exclusively uses glucose, low glucose stores signal the body to burn fat. Take a look at a marathon runner and a 100m sprinter, they both run however the sprinter is more muscular, in the sport of bodybuilding more muscular wins.

Amazing weight loss in 4 weeks – Busted

September 11th, 2009 by Bart 3 comments »

When will people learn there are no short cuts to getting lean, I came across this rather amusing site offering incredible body transformation in 4 weeks.

Another so called secret that only a privilege few know about, however the kind and generous person is willing to share this secret.

Kevin a guy living in Bangkok, is all to happy to show of his astonishing before and after picture

Amazing Kevin

Amazing Kevin

If I Got Ripped In Less Than 4 Weeks… Any of You Guys Can!

“I didn’t have to blow money on protein, creatine, or expensive workout videos, and I’m no gym rat – I just found these *FREE* supplements Hollywood actors use to get ripped…”

Hey guys, my name’s Kevin from Bangkok, Krung Thep. I’m writing this blog to tell you guys how I finally got shredded after years of trying. I’ve tried every supplement known to man. I tried creatine, pro-hormones, protein shakes, and all kinds of other supplements. All they did was make me bloated and gave me back zits and other crappy side effects. Such a waste of money. I bought crappy work out videos and followed them to a T. I went to the gym for hours every day. I just couldn’t understand how other people where getting so ripped and I basically stayed the same.

As it turns out Kevin didn’t take 4 weeks, Kevin toke 4 months

Kevin

Kevin  was a guy keeping a journal on a Croatian bodybuilding site, somebody has  stolen his pics to back up this amazing fat loss secret.

Sadly there are people gullible enough to buy into this crap, surely by now with the internet people are well informed there is no magic weight loss pill, and if a pill like this did exist it wouldn’t be a secret for very long, its the holy grail like a cure for baldness.

Buyer beware they’re everywhere………….

With No cardio I got ripped (part 2)

September 9th, 2009 by Bart 1 comment »

I received a few emails asking about the diet, rather than answering them one by one I would just post it.

To be honest if you’ve been in the game for a while there isn’t anything you haven’t seen before never the less here it is.

Meal 1:

Oat Meal 120g with water

Raisins 30g

10 egg whites plus 2 yolks I also added coconut oil

Meal 2:

100g white rice (the weight is before cooking)

120g Tuna

50 ml coconut milk

Pre-workout

2 mars bars (shocking isn’t it)

Post- workout

50g Whey protein

20g Bcaa

Meal 3:

50g white rice

100g Chicken breast

Meal 4:

Same as meal 2

Meal 5:

60g Whey protein

2 tablespoons coconut oil

I would follow this from Monday till Friday however if I was out I would pretty well anything I wanted.

Saturday and Sunday

Most guys including me will have cheat meals but what I did was eat less rather than more, my reason is simple I’m giving my liver a chance to clean itself, kinda like a motor mechanic fixing your car he can’t very well do it if you’re using it. I would only eat three solid meals and three liquid BCAA’s meals this way the liver had a chance to catch up.

If your liver is sluggish in processing food it’s will take longer to supply the muscle of much needed nutrition’s, remember it does more then just process food, from the heavy training the liver is a very busy organ so give it the weekend off.

Like I said the diet is simple, I placed no restrictions on the diet if I felt like eating pizza I did.

With no cardio I got ripped

September 7th, 2009 by Bart 15 comments »

Can you get lean without doing cardio, I did.

Cardio just bores the hell out of me, I try not to do it, I understand the health benefits but as a pure fat loss activity do you really need it?

There’s a lot of debate regarding cardio, some guys will swear without it it’s impossible to get lean on the other side guys are adamant all you need is diet.

I’m one of those guys who believe in diet, to me cardio burns more than just fat, I won international contests doing once a day cardio, but to be honest I used a shit load of product everything and anything, GH, insulin, Test you name it I was on it, so I wondered could I still get lean with no cardio and with very little product, there was only one way to find out I guess.

Week 1 – 8

HGH 4 Iu’s six on, one off
Sustanon 750mg
Deca 500mg

Week 9 – 12

HGH 4 Iu’s six on, one off

Week 13 – 14

HGH 4 Iu’s six on, one off
Jetepar 6 capsules daily
Kidney Clean 4 capsules daily

Week 15 -20

HGH 4 Iu’s six on, one off
Oxandrolone 60 mg daily
Sustanon 500mg every two weeks

bartbart1

My diet was simple, 5 meals a day, plus a pre-work snack and a post -work meal.

I  basically ate clean most of the time but if I felt like eating McDonalds I didn’t hesitate, I found myself eating junk food at least three times per week.

I added in more coconut oil especially at night time with my last protein shake before bed, this allowed the protein to be released slowly while I slept.

That’s about it really nothing more to add, I let heavy training do the rest

Cardio just bores the hell out of me, I try not to do it, I understand the health benefits but as a pure fat loss activity do you really need it?

Male “Menopause”

September 6th, 2009 by Bart 3 comments »

If you are a male over the age of 40 and are suffering from weakness, impotence, pain, stiffness, drooping muscles, depression, anxiety, or heat intolerance, you may be experiencing “andropause”.

Andropause is a syndrome resulting from the deficiency of hormones, especially testosterone. It’s onset and symptoms may not be as dramatic as female “menopause”, but its effects can be just as serious. It is interesting that hormone replacement is quite routine in women but barely even addressed in men. The decline in hormone levels in both sexes has an adverse impact on one’s state of health. Starting around age 25, DHEA and testosterone levels begin a progressive downward trend. With falling hormones, it is much harder to maintain muscle mass. Things begin to sag and fat begins to form increasingly thick layers around the lower back and abdomen. Stamina is affected and exercise intolerance occurs. Osteoporosis is well-documented in women and occurs in men as well. This can result in hip and vertebral compression fractures. Wrinkles that carve deep crevices in the face are partially due to testosterone deficiency. Libido is reduced and even impotence may develop. These changes are all a result of male “menopause”.

Hormone replacement has been available for women for decades and the positive results continue to multiply. In Anti-Aging medicine, it is expected that maintenance of hormone levels in the youthful range (that of a 25-30 year old) will provide substantial health benefit. Proper monitoring of hormone replacement is a relatively recent innovation that makes this therapy much safer. We can now insure proper dosages in the accepted normal physiologic range. Cancer risk is greatly reduced by this refined approach to replacement therapy.

The decline in testosterone occurs as a result of multiple causes and treatment should be directed accordingly. Aromatase (an enzyme that converts Testosterone into Estradiol) increases as we gain years. This increases raises the free estrogens and lowers the free Testosterone. Prostate cancer is correlated with high circulating estrogens. Aromatase inhibitors, such as chrysin, nettle extract, and Arimidex can inhibit aromatse. Testicular atrophy leads to decreased testosterone production. A course of treatment with HCG stimulates testicular development and can boost Testosterone production. A complete vitamin, mineral, and antioxidant supplement plus a proper diet help to correct nutritional deficiencies. DHEA and possible melatonin replacement also serve as alternatives and as adjuncts to testosterone therapy. A diet that includes a large amount of legumes, especially soy, is helpful in providing the necessary building blocks for our bodies to manufacture hormones. Maintaining cholesterol in the normal range (not to high or to low) is also critical for hormone synthesis. Testosterone replacement can be accomplished by the use of creams, pills or even injection. It is best if the physiologic patterns natural to the body are mimicked, which makes injection less favorable. Creams containing natural testosterone are well absorbed through the skin, bypass metabolism by the liver, and are easy to apply, thus making them superior to pills. The potential risks of testosterone administration include increases in red cell mass, worsening of sleep apnea, changes in plasma lipid levels, and fluid retention. There is some concern that testosterone replacement might exacerbate benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH). There is no change in PSA with testosterone therapy. You are not a candidate for this replacement therapy if you have an active testicular or prostate cancer. Finally, testosterone supplementation may produce adverse side effects if administered to men with normal levels, hence the importance of monitoring.

With proper replacement, you can expect to regain muscle mass, increase bone density, increase stamina, increase libido, reduce your risk for a variety of cancers and Alzheimer’s disease, and live an improved quality of life.
